The inspiration for this work comes from a lifelong commitment to education, leadership, and service.

Inspired by the legacy of her mother, Mae'Ella Washington Yarber, who dreamed of helping young people succeed through mentorship and guidance, Olinga Yarber-Alexander has dedicated her life to empowering students. As the first in her family to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree, she continues that mission through scholarship workshops, youth mentorship, service on the Tracy School Board, and leadership within Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Her favorite message to students is simple: "Continue reaching for the stars."

Her husband, Ameni Alexander, grew up in Oakland as the oldest of ten children. Driven by a passion for learning and leadership, he earned advanced degrees, served as a college professor, owned businesses, and spent decades serving the Tracy community through boards, commissions, and civic leadership. His lifelong goal has been to help young people access the resources and opportunities needed to succeed.

Married for more than 30 years after meeting at San José State University, Olinga and Ameni have devoted their lives to education, service, and community impact. Together, they created the Generation of Future Leaders Heritage Fund to invest in the next generation through scholarships, mentorship, and leadership development—ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
